Battle of the Bow is thrilled to announce the 18th Annual Cheer Competition for the 2025-2026 season. This event is recognized as one of the most innovative cheerleading events in the El Paso area, inviting Recreational, School, and All-Star cheer teams. We have welcomed athletes from West Texas, East Texas, and New Mexico. We can’t wait to see your performances as you compete for our prestigious “Golden Bow”!

CHEER COMPETITION SEASON JUST GOT 3X BETTER!

Teams that compete at UCCC- Battle of the Bow, UTEP Cheerleading Championships, and Sun City Showdown will become eligible to be recognized in our West T3Xas score-off. Teams that meet the eligibility requirements will have their three competition scores averaged out. The top three teams in each category (Recreational, School, Gameday, All-Star) will then be able to choose their “best” routine to be scored virtually by a qualified panel of Varsity judges who will review skills, deductions, drivers, max points and other critical scoring components. From there, the top three teams in each category (Recreational, School, Gameday, & All- Star) will be invited to the West T3Xas Awards Ceremony to be recognized and West T3Xas High Point Champions in each category be announced.

Awards:

  • 3rd place- West T3Xas Finalist Banner
  • 2nd place- West T3Xas Finalist Banner
  • 1st place- West T3Xas High Point Champion Banner, Champion patches, and an Exclusive Bomber Jacket for registered team athletes & 2 coaches
  • (These awards will be given for each category- Rec., School, Gameday, and All-Star: 15 Finalists total/ 4 West T3Xas High Point Winners)

How to become eligible:

  • Must compete in- person at all three competitions (UCCC-Battle of the Bow, UTEP Cheerleading Competition, and Sun City Showdown).
  • Must compete in the same division at each competition.
  • Exhibition teams are NOT eligible due to scoring and skill restrictions that differ from performance routines.

The process:

  • Register for all three competitions.
  • Your scores from each competition will be averaged and ranked.
  • Top three teams in each category (Rec,  School, Gameday, All- Star) will be notified of their finalist placement up to a week after the last competition of the season, Sun City Showdown, and sent the official invite for the West T3Xas Awards Ceremony.
  • Coaches will be able to choose which video from the three competitions they would like submitted for virtual scoring by a panel of Varsity qualified judges. Each competition is responsible for recording the routines of each team competing. It is not your responsibility to record your routines at each competition. Routine videos will be uploaded to a file and sent to coaches for the selection process.
  • Lastly, teams will attend the Awards Ceremony where the finalists will be recongnized and High Point Winners will be announced

Meet the Judges

NEW THIS YEAR- SCORE REVIEW JUDGE

Gabby Mauro

Gabby Mauro brings over 15 years of experience in the cheerleading industry as an athlete, coach, choreographer, and judge. She is a certified judge with United Scoring, Open Championships Series, and YCADA in all categories, as well as extensive experience evaluating Game Day routines and youth divisions. Gabby specializes in score review, routine evaluation, choreography, and detailed scoring breakdowns, helping coaches better understand how their routines are being assessed.

Gabby has judged at some of the most prestigious events in the industry, including Allstar Worlds, NCA All-Star Nationals, Jamfest Super Nationals, The Summit, and The Youth Summit. Gabby is known for her well-rounded background and clear, educational approach, making her a valuable resource for both coaches and event producers. 
SCHOOL PERFORMANCE AND ALL STAR Judge

Mateo Ortega- Hernandez

Mateo Ortega-Hernandez brings 25+ years of cheerleading experience as a former D1 Director of Spirit Programs at the University of Wyoming and assistant coach at New Mexico State University, with additional head coaching roles at the high school level in several top-performing schools. He has served as a competition judge for Varsity Brands, the Golden State Spirit Association, and other competitions across high school, college, and all-star divisions. Mateo is co-founder of The Haus of OH, a choreography company he runs with his husband, Oscar “Big O” Ortega-Hernandez, that provides custom choreography, camps, and master classes for cheer, dance, and spirit teams at the high schools, colleges, and Pro NFL and NBA levels, as well as pro-dance prep and coach mentorship.  He is also a social worker in the behavioral health sector and lives in Las Cruces, NM, with his husband and their two poodles.

Jessie Chavez

Throughout her career, Jessie has demonstrated an unwavering passion for cheerleading, not only as a sport but also as a powerful tool for shaping the lives of young individuals. She is dedicated to helping her athletes grow both in skill and character, guiding them to become not only exceptional cheerleaders but also respectful and responsible adults. 

With an impressive 12-year background in cheerleading, Jessie’s journey has taken her through every level of the sport—from elementary school all the way to high school and the competitive All-Star level. Her achievements include four high school state titles in New Mexico, a testament to her commitment and excellence in the sport. In addition, Jessie has garnered several national titles at the All-Star cheer level, showcasing her skill, leadership, and ability to inspire success in her athletes.

Her experience, combined with her passion for mentoring, has made her a beloved and respected figure in the cheerleading community. 

Game Day, SCHOOL PERFORMANCE, and YCADA Recreational Judge

Amaris Esquivel

Amaris has been a dedicated cheerleader since she began her journey at the age of 9. Her passion for the sport led her to join All Star cheerleading, where developed a love for performance and teamwork. Throughout her middle and high school years, Amaris excelled in school cheer, showcasing her talent and spirit on the sidelines. 

She further elevated her cheerleading experience at El Paso Community College, honing her skills and contributing to the spirit of the college community. For the past two years, Amaris has worked with the Universal Cheerleaders Association, where she utilizes her expertise to mentor aspiring cheerleaders. As a USA Safety Credentialed professional, Amaris prioritizes safety in cheerleading practices and competitions. Her dedication to the sport of cheerleading is evident in everything she does, and she remains committed to fostering a positive  environment for all athletes.

 
YCADA recreational and All Star Judge

Oscar "Big O" Ortega- Hernandez

Oscar “Big O” Ortega-Hernandez is an internationally acclaimed choreographer with 23+ years of experience coaching and choreographing in the NFL, NBA, and the professional sports entertainment industry, earning him the title “The King of Pro.” His viral choreography has been featured with franchises including the Las Vegas Raiders, Miami Dolphins, Golden State Warriors, Portland Trail Blazers, and Atlanta Hawks, just to name a few, along with television appearances on America’s Got Talent, The Ellen Show, and Dance Moms. Oscar’s expertise extends to studio, college, and high school dance and cheer teams, where he is known for his high-energy, hard-hitting, production-level choreography. He is co-founder of The Haus of OH, a choreography company he runs with his husband, Mateo Ortega-Hernandez, that provides custom choreography, camps, and master classes to cheer, dance, and spirit teams from high school through professional levels.

Alexis Dominguez

Alexis Dominguez has demonstrated a strong dedication to the sport of cheerleading through her continued involvement as both an athlete and professional within the cheer community. Her background includes participation at the middle school, high school, and collegiate levels, including cheering for the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), where she developed a solid foundation in performance, technique, and teamwork.

Following her competitive career, Alexis continued her involvement in cheerleading by serving as a local competition judge, offering knowledgeable, fair, and constructive evaluations of athletes and teams. She has also contributed to athlete development through her role as a local All-Star coach.

Alexis is passionate about supporting the growth of cheerleaders both on and off the mat and is honored to be part of the judging panel, celebrating the hard work, dedication, and sportsmanship of today’s athletes.

Deductions judge

Bailey Sarver

Bailey has been a dedicated figure in cheerleading since the age of six. She cheered at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), where she was selected as a Program Leader. Her cheer coaching career spans recreational, all star, middle school, and high school levels, as well as coaching the Blue Storm team for the Greater El Paso Football Showcase cheerleaders the past 2 years. 
For the past six years, Bailey has been a valued member of the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) staff, where she teaches and inspires cheerleaders across the country. Her leadership was recently recognized when she was named Head Instructor of the Week during the 2024 UCA training session. As well as being selected to work special events within the Varsity Brands company, going to the Thanksgiving Tour Parade in Walt Disney World and the Pearl Harbor Parade in Honolulu, Hawaii. She is also USA Safety credentialed, ensuring that her teams perform with a focus on safety and excellence.
In addition to her work in cheerleading, Bailey has also been a teacher for the past six years, bringing her passion for health education into the classroom.

Lexi Tucker

UCcc Competition coordinator

Lexi has over 31  years of cheerleading experience. She started cheering at the age of three and continued through high school, college, and later went on to become the head cheer coach at Evangel Christian Academy in Shreveport, Louisiana.

She has won seven National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) National Championships as both a choreographer and athlete. Notably, she was part of the Spirit of Texas International Level 6 team that won NCA Grand National Champions in 2010, 5- time NCA Collegiate Championship cheer team at the University of Texas at Arlington, and finished her cheerleading career at UTEP. 

Her passion stems from giving back to the community, helping athletes achieve their collegiate or professional cheerleading goals, and offering them the same experiences and networking opportunities that shaped her career.

An El Paso native, Lexi graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso with a Bachelor’s in Multimedia Journalism and a minor in Education. She was a former English teacher and Coordinator of Sports Program for Socorro ISD. Currently, she serves as the CEO of Ultimate City Cheerleading Championships in El Paso, TX. Lexi and her husband, Konner, have two daughters, Karter Kay and Kinzley Karson.
